We actually ended up spending several days in Bend. Our next day consisted of eating yummy foods from around town, hitting up the local farmer's market, meeting a couple crazies, getting a motel and relaxing. Our experience during the farmer's market is definitely one worth of sharing... after eating some delicious samples from the local farmers, we decided to rest in the shade on the grass and listen to some live blues music. First we were approached by an interesting fellow who told us that he is a "lone traveler who knows not where he goes". After he left us, we were approached by another interesting man-- he noticed that we were just sitting and enjoying the music so he asked if he could join us. We said yes, of course and we talked a little while with him until a lady police officer walked up and started asking him some questions: "Were you just on Wall Street?" "We got a call from a distressed lady that you have a hole in the front of your pants." "May I ask if you are wearing underwear?" He stated that he would never intentionally show his private parts to anyone but that his pants ripped this morning and he had actually put some duct tape on them. Basically, we had just spent a bit of time talking with someone who enjoys showing his special parts to the world. After that fabulous experience, we booked a room at the Rainbow Motel, went to Safeway from some treats and spent the rest of the evening relaxing while watching Men In Black, Holes and parts of Billy Madison.

What the?! Are those chicken butts? |
We woke up the next morning to a bit of rain outside making our decision to stay another night quite easy. :) After eating some breakfast, we made our way to a thrift store where Dangit bought some street clothes from the quarter bin and Ferd found a sweet shirt for his Halloween costume and a new hiking hat (he lost his original one in the thrift store). We made our way to Arby's for lunch and then to
Atlas Cider Co. for some free samples-- yum! After doing some resupplying at a grocery store, we got a Dominos pizza and headed back to the motel room for some more r&r and more movies.
Ok... we are definitely going to leave Bend today. It's been 3 days for heaven's sake! Well, it's 4:45pm and we are still here at the library. Bend's
Oktoberfest starts today... which is a little tempting, but we are set on getting back on trail. We'll take a couple buses to get to the edge of town and then hitch 40 miles back to the trailhead. :)
